Historic Tours
Walk around Blue Ridge and learn about what makes the town and Fannin County special. Early inhabitants included Native Cherokee people who left place names, and legends specific to these hills. In places like Dial, and Higdon pioneer settles farmed the land and raised families while rougher men mined the land for copper, gold, and marble. Blue Ridge and Mineral Bluff were railroad towns, each with unique and often funny stories. Initially established in 1886 they were expanded by speculators and business entrepreneurs. By the early 1900s Blue Ridge had become a fashionable resort with spas, a fancy private girl’s school, plenty of visitors and new residents from up North. Learn about Blue Ridge Lake. Built before TVA was even established it was the largest and most fashionable lake in North Georgia. Today Blue Ridge still retains a special small town feel. Hear stories about the stores where residents shopped, played pool, and had parties in fashionable homes that were reported in the social section of the Atlanta newspapers.
